62nd annual primetime emmy awards

Tonight, the annual Emmy Awards telecast will be aired live on both the East and West Coasts (finally!). The ceremony will also incorporate fan tweets into Jimmy Fallon’s material—but will there be any other surprises in the 2010 broadcast?

Will 30 Rock continue its domination in the Comedy category, or will - or even Modern Family - finally topple the reigning champ? Will Mad Men snag another Best Drama win, or will get a statue for its final season?

What will Conan O’Brien say if he wins for The Tonight Show during this NBC event? Will Elisabeth Moss address soon-to-be ex-husband Fred Armisen if she wins for Best Supporting Actress? Oh – the awkward possibilities are endless!

So who won and who lost at the ? Read our West Coast play-by-play account of this evening’s telecast and find out!

Given the dismal response to the MacGruber film, Saturday Night Live fans might not care if that character died. But, really—who doesn’t love Will Forte?

The funnyman who was featured in sketches like political candidate Tim Calhoun and opposite band Jon Bovi has just announced that he will be leaving the late night program. The parting of ways was reportedly amicable.

NBC hasn’t officially confirmed that will be hosting SNL, but Ryan Murphy managed to spill the beans at Tuesday’s Eat Pray Love premiere. Murphy is the co-creator and mouthpiece of Glee, which Lynch stars in as Sue Sylvester.

called to say, ‘Would you give us Jane [Lynch] for a week in October?’” Murphy told reporters. “We just don’t do that, but for Lorne Michaels, I said yes.” Sure, who wouldn’t?

Murphy sent a text to Jane Lynch right after the phone call, telling her she’ll be hosting the famous variety show. Lynch’s response? “What are you talking about?”

If the rumors pan out to be true, expect to see Jane on the October 9 broadcast of SNL.

The 100,000+ Facebook fans who have campaigned to get Carol Burnett on Saturday Night Live might be a little shocked to hear this news: the comedienne has no plans to do her Tarzan yell on the show.

Although Facebook supporters were successful in getting Betty White a hosting gig on the NBC program, Carol says she doesn’t want to follow in the Golden Girl’s footsteps. “No one can top Betty,” the 77-year-old explained. “Why even try to be an imitator? You just can’t.”

If Burnett’s fans are willing to go a different route, the Emmy award-winner says 30 Rock and are high on her list. “Oh, I would definitely do [Glee]. I’d do whatever they wanted me to, but I’d like to have a few scenes with Jane Lynch. I love her.”

When Betty White says, “Type, nerds!” - nerds type.

Approximately a week after the 88-year-old joked (?) in an NBC promo about getting a gig on the Academy Awards (watch the second clip), her Facebook fans got back to work.

Now there are pages devoted to having White host the Oscars and/or the 2010 Emmys. Oh - and there’s even one campaigning to get the actress on Glee.

A little tired of the Golden Girl overkill? Well, then maybe you can throw your support behind another comedienne. Nearly 79,000 people have already become Facebook fans of “Carol Burnett to Host SNL (PLEASE?)!

What is it about Mother’s Day that brings out the best in Saturday Night Live? (Remember Justin Timberlake’s “Motherlover” from just last year?)

Last night’s long-awaited broadcast with was arguably the best night the show had had in quite some time. (Of course, appearances from old SNL faves - Rachel Drath, Amy Poehler, Ana Gasteyer, Tina Fey, Maya Rudolph and Molly Shannon - were also responsible for a good number of the laughs.)

After the jump, you can watch just a few of the sketches - NPR, Scared Straight, Sally O’Malley and MacGruber - from the 88-year-old’s memorable visit.
